“A Bunch of Paintings” represents certain of my recent enquiries into the relationship between artistic practice and communication, at the same time parodying those things it is impossible for me to express through work alone.
The image consists of a windswept, American flag and the polestar. The artist takes a video (2mins 26seconds) shot during the winter of 2013 in Boston, stretching its original playtime out to 9mins 11seconds.
Here, one attempts to extract some sort of significance, but in the end, is it really meaningful at all? Present and yet not, real and yet only virtual, life itself possesses its own invisible but nonetheless indispensable existential forces.
