Fang Wei: I have the whole picture in my mind when I decided to make an uncontrollable scene. This is the place where reflects your thinking process and the paintings show your thinking pattern. So it can never be a serious lecture. Then I tried to imagine if I use a projector or other equipment to play the work, the value of the work on the scene would be weakened. I hope those who are not able to come can feel the power of the work, or can digest the information delivered by the work. I refuse to describe my work, because the description will constrain the imagination of the viewers. It’s very interesting that you told me a friend wrote a review about this exhibition two days ago, all about his imagination. The imagination is far beyond my expectation. I felt that my work has its own vitality. It began to grow up. I am very excited, because it achieved my goal. The artist should stay behind the work rather than jump in front. So that’s why I am not willing to hold a speech on the scene.

Fang Wei: I was persecuted by some questions before I came. For example I always commute between Hangzhou and Xiamen. I doubt my life sometimes. That is to say which part is your real life. A very important starting point of Psychedelic Land is to find the faith. It might be undeveloped. So it will be divided into both sides of the wall. One side is a self-battling scene, and the other side is an idyllic landscape picture. These two sides can be the metaphor of my experience of the world.

Fang Wei: Yes. This kind of idea will flash into my mind occasionally. I am in different states of mind when I stay in Xiamen and Hangzhou.

Fang Wei: Yes, Psychedelic Land represents what I want to say. I am making the choice, but no clear answers so far, because I am in the process.

Fang Wei: This option is more like a battle. I have more confidence than panic in this battle.

Fang Wei: A very simple example. I expect audience to come since the first day I open this studio. But I suddenly find no one is here. It contradicts my expectation. So the battle begins from here. What do you do? To fulfill your expectation, or to figure out something else.

Fang Wei: In the previous two solos, I create a very formal scene in a very formal way. Gradually I found it’s not interesting. It\'s about almost half a year before preparing for this exhibition. I didn’t get a pleasant and relaxed feeling as I expected when I painted pictures, so I decide to change. I want to make a scene that shows outbreak forces when people face something unknown. Also I want to test the reaction of the audience, to see how important our lives in the realization of art are. I didn’t make any announcement in advance. When I come to the scene, I would observe whether this method has any additional effects on the communication between paintings and audience. So I will change the method of the third exhibition to make it as a process.
